Who’s up for breeding some baby horses?! 😍

Anticipating the upcoming launch of the breeding feature, here is the Ultimate Breeding Guide for the stable owners.

Here you will find all the need-to-know information about the breeding mechanics in the DeRace metaverse.

General breeding mechanics

To breed a new horse you will need a Love Potion NFT (name is being suggested by the community), $DERC to cover the breeding fee (currently the fee is 50 $DERC) and 2 horses: a mare and a stallion, both with breeding cool-down equal to 0. You can either own both horses yourself or use the rent-for-breeding service.

Once breeding is initiated, both NFT horses are sent to the Breeding Smart Contract where all the magic happens.

Breeding in the DeRace metaverse is governed by a Genetic Algorithm (GA). GA generates a new NFT horse by combining genes/properties from parent horses, with some deviation (RNG factor is applied).

After breeding ends, parent horses and the newly bred NFT horse return to the corresponding wallets and are ready for racing.

Breeding usually takes up to 10 minutes and after it ends the horse breeding cool-down will start. Each horse has a different cool-down time which is a hidden property. It can vary between 2 weeks to 2 months. Like with speed property in the races, the breeding cool-down is dynamic: each time you breed the horse, cool-down time will be a bit different due to the RNG factor.

Classical horse breeding mechanics

If you own 2 horses — a mare and a stallion — in your stable, the breeding mechanics are pretty straightforward:

Choose a horse for breeding from your inventory
Choose a mate from the suggested list of your horses and proceed with the breeding
To proceed you need to have Love Potion NFT in your inventory which gets burned during the breeding process
Pay the breeding fee (currently it’s 50 $DERC)
Let mother nature do its work
Congratulations! You have minted a new NFT horse!

During the breeding process, your horses will interact with the Breeding Smart Contract and after the process has ended all 3 NFT horses will return back to your inventory.

Rent-a-horse

DeRace NFT horse owners will be able to not only breed their horses but also rent them for breeding to other players.

Once you decide to put your horse for rent-to-breed and choose the breeding fee, your NFT horse will interact with the Breeding Smart Contract and leave your inventory. During this time you won’t be able to race your horse unless you decide to cancel the rental.

After another player rents your horse for breeding, he pays the breeding fee of your choice and the $DERC will be automatically dropped to your wallet. After the breeding ends your horse will return back to your wallet and his breeding cool-down will start. You will be able to rent your horse for breeding again after the breeding cool-down ends.

Rent-a-horse breeding mechanics

If you decide to use a rental service for breeding you can find all the available horses by using the “Open for breeding” filter in the NFT Horses page on our website.

Press a heart icon next to the horse name to initiate the breeding. The whole process is exactly the same as for classical breeding except that you have to also pay the horse owner the breeding fee of his choice.

Once the breeding process is completed the parent horse that you own and the newly minted horse will return back to your wallet.

Additional breeding details

Tiers: when breeding different tier horses the newly bred horse will take the tier parameter of the lower tier parent.

For example: If parent horses have Alfa and Omega tiers, the foal will be Omega.

Generations: breeding 2 Generation 0 NFT horses will always create a Generation 1 horse.

Breeds: breeding 2 different breed horses will always generate a Mixed breed foal. Only breeding the horses of the same breed will generate a pure-breed foal.

For example: 2 Appaloosa parents will have an Appaloosa foal. An Appaloosa and a Thoroughbred parents will have a Mixed breed foal.

Breeding fee: currently the breeding fee is 50 $DERC. We are working on updating the Breeding Smart Contract where the fee will increase marginally with each new horse minted to protect the ecosystem from overbreeding.

Exclusive right to breed: Generation 0 horse owners will have an exclusive right to breed for approximately 2 months. Generation 1 breeding will be introduced afterwards.
